The story is that Davie504 made a video criticizing YouTube's copyright and censorship system, saying it's become so bizarre lately that it's mind-boggling. The climax was when he went into a super-soundproof room, intending to do a humorous cover of "The Sound of Silence" by turning off all sound and just waving his hands on the bass guitar in absolute silence.
How on earth did YouTube's Content ID bot still detect it and immediately flagged it for copyright infringement? It seems the music industry now has a monopoly on silence; even breathing might require paying royalties.
And that's not all; he was also furious about a 5-second variation of "Smoke on the Water" in a 10-minute video that also resulted in a copyright strike. The appeals system is so unreasonable that if you lose a second appeal, the video is deleted and you have to pay compensation for breach of sponsorship contracts – it's like being unfairly fined for a parking ticket and being threatened with having your house demolished if you dare to argue.
Another video from last year, in which Shorts playfully slapped the air, was dug up and deleted by YouTube for "cyberbullying." Now he's confused about how he'll make videos in the future, knowing that even silence gets him into copyright issues, while any physical movement might be considered violence.
